Class & Level Descriptions

Creative Movement

An introduction to movement, music and rhythm through a variety of fun activities. Children learn basic dance concepts such as balance, shape, levels, improvisation and more.

Introduction to Ballet and Modern

Combines elements of creative movement with ballet and modern techniques.

Performance Workshop

This class uses basic elements of a variety of dance styles with a focus on creating new works of choreography. The emphasis is on creativity and collaboration. Students will perform their original work at the Spring Concert in May.

Physically Integrated Dance

Students of all physical abilities explore the unlimited possibilities of creative expression through dance. Dancers using wheelchairs or other physical assistance are welcome.

Modern

There are many different modern dance techniques. Most modern dance challenges the upright hierarchy of ballet by incorporating the use of a wider range of levels and a more visible relationship with the ground and the weight of the body. Much of modern dance uses the inversion of the head and the hips, thereby creating more possibilities for the orientation of the body in space.

Jazz/Hip Hop

An exciting exploration of contemporary dance styles, Jazz/Hip Hop uses isolated movement and explosive stage presence paired with some great Hip Hop music.

Ballet

Explores ballet movement and technique theories, building and expanding upon a foundation for continued dance training.

Stretch and Strength

This class is Pilates-based and focuses on stretching the muscles as well as strengthening them. It’s a great class for dancers and non-dancers alike. The teacher, Lisa Nevada, has been teaching Stretch and Strength at Keshet since 2001. Her previous training came from UNM professor Jennifer Predock-Linnell. The focus of the class is to build a strong core(abdominal wall), utilize breathing techniques, gain greater range of motion(flexibility) and acquire balanced strength throughout the entire body. No previous experience is necessary to join the class. New student registration will be cut off half way through the session in order to maintain class momentum and to prevent injury to those who may want to join after the cut off date.
