History
Shira Greenberg’s passion for dance was ignited at the age of nine when she began studying ballet and modern dance with the Minnesota Dance Theatre. She went on to study dance and theater at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and at Ithaca College in New York. Shira has taught and performed dance throughout the United States and in Israel.
Shira moved to Albuquerque in 1996 in search of a way to use her passion for the art of dance to inspire others and engage the community. She realized her goal when she founded Keshet Dance Company.
Today Keshet, which means “rainbow” in Hebrew, is a thriving cultural force in New Mexico, reaching thousands of kids and adults annually via its performances and educational programs. The private, non-profit organization is currently housed in an 8,700 square foot building in downtown Albuquerque that includes two dance studios, offices, and a costume shop. Newly designated as the City of Albuquerque’s resident dance company at the historic KiMo Theatre, Keshet is partnering with the City to renovate facilities and restore programming to the KiMo Theatre and the adjoining Freed Building.
“Keshet Dance Company provides a unique and powerful environment for artists who are committed to excellence and community involvement. We are thrilled to be pursuing our mission in this vibrant community and in partnership with the City of Albuquerque” says Shira.
