The History

Shira dancingShira Greenberg’s passion for dance was ignited at the age of nine when she began studying ballet and modern dance with the Minnesota Dance Theatre. She went on to study dance and theater at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and at Ithaca College in New York. Shira has taught and performed dance throughout the United States and in Israel.

Shira moved to Albuquerque in 1996 in search of a way to use her passion for the art of dance to inspire others and engage the community. She realized her goal when she founded Keshet Dance Company, a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization.

Today Keshet, which means “rainbow” in Hebrew, is a thriving cultural force in New Mexico, having reached over 30,000 people during ten years of performances and educational programs. The private, non-profit organization is housed in an 8,700 sq.ft. building that includes a performance space, studios, offices and a costume shop.

Shira Greenberg“My vision for Keshet is for continued growth and expansion into an internationally recognized and respected dance company while staying rooted in its commitment to the community.”
